Synopsis
A fascinating figure, Franco-Peruvian Flora Tristán's life and writings remain a testament to her bold vision of a fairer, more inclusive society, and her works continue to inspire feminist and socialist thought worldwide. In the period film The Legacy of Flora, director Augusto Tamayo San Román explores her trip to Peru.
France, 1833. Flora Tristán, a 30-year-old woman facing extreme poverty alongside her daughter, Aline, sets sail for Arequipa, Peru, determined to claim her rightful paternal inheritance. This journey to Peru, though unsuccessful in securing her claim, profoundly shaped Flora's worldview. Upon her return to France, she reinvented herself as a fearless writer and social activist, channeling her struggles into a revolutionary vision for workers' rights and gender equality, becoming a pioneering voice in the fight for social justice.
Though she died young at 41, Tristán's ideas inspired later socialist and feminist movements.
