Earth Community, Ep. 07 - Brazil, Piracanga

Paulina Ferretti, Juan Tamayo | Documentary, Series

2023 | 25 minutes | Chile

Piracanga, on Brazil's coast, is a blend of spirituality, education, and ecological harmony, created to foster sustainable lives on restored land.

Synopsis

Piracanga is an intentional community and spiritual retreat center nestled between the sea and river on the Maraú Peninsula, Bahia. Inspired by a vision, its founder embarked on a journey that led to Itacaré, a small town on the Cocoa Coast. Over time, like-minded individuals have settled on the sandy land, each contributing to the community—whether through educating children, restoring native bee populations, or fostering environmental regeneration.

As the community flourishes, children have become its heart, shaping Piracanga into both an ecovillage and a Center for Human Development. It now boasts its own school and university, alongside a Holistic Center that serves as a hub for daily life. The community features a park, church, market, hostel, restaurant, and administrative office, creating a self-sustaining environment. Regular visitors arrive for courses, retreats, and volunteer programs, drawn by Piracanga’s unique blend of spirituality, education, and ecological harmony.
