Synopsis

The last sea lion-skin raft, made by Roberto Álvarez “Chango Robe” in the 1960s at the request of archaeologist Hans Niemeyer, definitively changed the destiny of the Chango culture. The raft was the argument used by Felipe Rivera, great-grandson of “Chango Robe,” to unite the Chango council and convince the Chilean parliament that the Changos still inhabit the northern coast of Chile, achieving state recognition as the tenth living indigenous group in the country.

Series Description
A six-part documentary series that shows how the culture of the Chango people, considered extinct until a couple of years ago, is still deeply rooted among many artisanal fishermen who live in the coastal territory of northern Chile.

Reviews

"Through an intimate and visually striking narrative, the series immerses us in the lives of the small-scale fishermen who inhabit the nation’s coastal regions—people who have kept alive the traditions, techniques, and worldview of their ancestors—taking us on a journey through memory and craftsmanship." — Daphne Riffo, Espacio 13C
