Roads in February
(Las rutas en febrero)
Katherine Jerkovich | Drama, Fiction
2018 | 82 minutes | Canada, Uruguay
Driven by childhood memories and the hope of a reunion, Sarah visits her paternal grandmother in her village in Uruguay.
Synopsis
After the death of her father, a young woman travels to Uruguay to visit with her paternal grandmother, who she hasn't spoken to since she immigrated to Canada. She is received coolly, and the village she grew up in now seems mundane and unfamiliar.
Reviews
"Roads in February will occasionally make you want more - an extra line of dialogue, maybe one broken plate. But, in the end, when Magda and Sarita reach an emotional communion over their shared loss, you will be glad that Jerkovic left the spaces open." - Stephen Rodrick, Globe and Mail
"Turns a mirror onto the audience and does it with care, empathy, and a genuine interest in what the viewer and the characters will find." - Andrew Parker, The Gate
"Jerkovic is a gifted, intuitive storyteller who doesn't need to oversell her story's emotional undercurrents; she trusts her audience to understand what's going on simply by paying attention to her actors' faces." - Norman Wilner, NOW Toronto
