A Plan for Life

(Un plan de vida)
Sjoerd van Grootheest | Documentary

2022 | 76 minutes | Colombia

A Colombian indigenous community confronts the forced recruitment of their youth and the resurgence of war amidst Covid-19.

Synopsis

A Plan for Life examines the enduring cycles of violence faced by an indigenous community in Colombia, highlighting the intersection of historical conflict, state neglect, and grassroots resistance. Set against the backdrop of the Covid-19 pandemic, the film follows community leaders as they struggle to protect their youth from forced recruitment by armed groups, despite the 2016 Peace Agreement between the Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC).

By weaving personal testimonies with broader reflections on Colombia’s internal war, A Plan for Life provides a critical analysis of post-accord realities. Offering valuable insights for scholars in conflict studies, Latin American politics, and indigenous rights, this documentary contributes to the ongoing discourse on transitional justice and the challenges of achieving sustainable peace.
