Sergio Larraín, the Eternal Moment
(Sergio Larraín, el instante eterno)
Sebastián Moreno | Documentary
2021 | 84 minutes | Chile
Explore the fascinating life of Chilean photographer Sergio Larraín and the iconic photos of the first Latin American to join Magnum Photos.
Synopsis
An in-depth examination of Sergio Larraín, the Chilean photographer born in Santiago in 1931, whose work profoundly influenced 20th-century photography. Larraín was one of the few Latin American photographers to join the prestigious Magnum Photos agency, becoming a full member in 1961, and his work was acquired by institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
The film contextualizes his photographic practice and iconic images within global visual culture and traces his unexpected withdrawal from professional photography and public life as he pursued spiritual and contemplative interests in northern Chile.
Through archival material and factual narrative, the documentary contributes to critical discourse on authorship, artistic trajectory, and Latin American contributions to international photography.
