Equipo Crónica. Art in the Trenches
(Equipo Crónica. Arte de trinchera)
Rafa Sesa, FelipeVillaplana | Documentary
2025 | 75 minutes | Spain
Artist Manolo Valdés recalls Equipo Crónica, whose Pop Art challenged Franco’s Spain with bold, collective political resistance.
Synopsis
Equipo Crónica (Spain, 1964–1981) was a group of visual artists who created their works collaboratively. Their proposals—fierce critiques of the Franco dictatorship—constituted an aesthetic, political, and cultural revolution.
Manolo Valdés, the last surviving member of the group, recalls from New York—the city where he has lived and worked for over 40 years—how, through Pop Art, they created trench art that was both committed and militant.
